That’s Too Nice to Part Out!

We hear it all the time from the keyboard warriors: “That’s too nice to part out”. Sometimes we may agree with them, but the vehicle does not have the proper paperwork and the headache to title the vehicle isn’t worth it. Many of the vehicles we purchase come from large “collections” that have been sitting out in the Minnesota weather, in a woods or field, for YEARS. These cars are not usually in the greatest shape, but they have a lot of great parts left. However, they wouldn’t be safe if they were put back on the road. We purchase these vehicles knowing we are going to sell the parts.

One example is a 1950 Buick Super we purchased back in June. It looked great in pictures, but the floors were badly rusted. There were a lot of comments about needing to sell it complete, but no buyers. It eventually got inventoried and parts were flying off it. Looking at the “AFTER” photo might make you a little sad BUT it made many other people very happy. Some parts from this 1950 Buick stayed in Minnesota while others went to Wisconsin, Texas, Missouri, California, and even out of the country as far as Australia!

One customer who bought the front bumper assembly put it into his 1953 Chevy Bel-Air project.

Another satisfied customer, Garrett, purchased multiple parts to restore his friend’s 1950 Buick Super Convertible. He was very happy that we had the dash, fender and hood as their parts were in rough shape.

The furthest away these parts went was to Ray of Melbourne, Australia! Ray has also purchased multiple parts from us for his car including the sun visor pictured, armrest, and the grille mustache from the 1950 Buick Super. Ray’s car has even made it on the front cover of a magazine! (pictured below) He keeps his eye open for parts that may be in better shape than the ones he currently has.

Some people feel that we are taking a classic off the roads. Our philosophy is that by selling the parts we are helping many others get theirs back on the road. FLAP is one of very few auto recyclers left that will deal with older vehicles. Most yards these days don’t go back more than ten years. We are trying to continue the legacy of being your favorite place for classic car parts!
